The Mini Dental Implant – An Alternative to Conventional Implants

17 Jul

Maybe your dentures aren’t as well-fitting as a once were, and they slip around bothering your mouth. You might want to investigate using mini dental implants as a method for steadying the dentures you already have.

No matter whether you require the implants for that reason, or for an entire brand-new mouthful of teeth; maybe you need just a single tooth implant, you should educate yourself about the way in which mini dental implants operate.

The part that is actually implanted in the gum is a titanium rod that is a substance which your body will not reject. It’s a sole unit that sports a screw at one end; at the opposite end a knob. The veneers or tooth or dentures are then made with a tiny hole that fits onto the little knob. They also sport an O-ring that permits them to remain snug while speaking and eating, but by applying a little bit of force can come off without difficulty for cleaning. Naturally if all you need is to get one new tooth, it would not be installed so as to be removable. You would need it to last permanently.

Many dental implants are called “mini” due to the fact that they are roughly half as small as regular implants. They are also less expensive than ordinary dental implants. To be more specific, many dental implants are around 2 mm in diameter, conventional implants are between 4 mm and 6 mm in diameter. The smaller diameter of the mini implants makes it much more straightforward for dentists to place them into the tiny regions of the mouth and make the implant stable. This is one of the many reasons that these implants have become so well-liked as single tooth replacements.

Teeth Whitening Products and Tooth Paste Concerns and Thoughts

13 Jul

I thought I might throw in these additional thoughts here that might help some folks:

Brushing your teeth on a regular basis is of course a vital part of keeping your bright white smile and maintaining any progress you have made with whitening procedures. And ideally you should use a “whitening” tooth paste. But a word of caution. I have personally known of two close friends that have literally worn down the enamel of their teeth by over brushing. And their dentists have told them to not use the more abrasive whitening tooth pastes. Now granted this will only be the case for a few people. The ones I am talking about would brush their teeth from 4 to 6 times a day.

So some good advice would be to simply get the recommendation of your dentist. Find out if you are you are one of the people that is at risk of doing damage by brushing? And should you use the whitening tooth pastes? It would seem that some peoples teeth have softer enamel and more likely to have a problem. I would also seem that anyone that brushes more than four times a day should probably not use an abrasive tooth paste, at least not at all the different times of brushing.

It would seem advisable also for people with softer teeth enamel to be more concerned about the types of whitening procedures they use. Some are certainly more aggressive than others and it would be good to do a little more investigation.

We should always be safe, rather than sorry, when it comes to our teeth that we want with us for a lifetime.

Home Remedies For Teeth Whitening – Dentist Advice!

10 Jul

Teeth whitening is widely used by many individuals and scientists are coming up with new methods of it with each passing day. Recently, in America new whitening product has been launched for tanning. The hydrogen peroxide formula in the product gets activated with the UV rays from sunlight and thus your teeth looks bright and shiny while it is exposed to sun and tanning beds.

Dental bleaching is done by several people across all the cities in America. Teeth whitening in Gardena are highly popular as the dentists in this city uses latest products for bleaching. But there are several food items that can be used for the same. These food items help in removing the yellowish tint very easily when the stains have just started to appear on your teeth.

* Strawberries are very effective for this purpose. Although other berries such as cranberries and blueberries can make teeth dark but strawberries have special elements which help in whitening. You can also take this fruit daily as strawberries are a good source of nutrients that are required to maintain good health. Daily rubbing of strawberries after brushing your teeth can be done to remove the stains that we get from coffee and tea.

* Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda is one of the most effective bleaching agents you can get at home. Although you can get this agent in tooth pastes but this can also be used by mixing the raw form of it in water. It will not only remove the stains but will also make your teeth shiny.

* Lemon juice is available in every household and it works as a great whitening agent. You can rub lemon juice regularly while brushing or can use it separately. But lemon has lots of citrus acid which can be harmful for the enamel. Hence, you must use very little amount of it.

* Apple is one more teeth whitening agent. It works in a different way than the previous agents. Apple triggers the secretion of saliva which helps in cleaning the stains. You can use apple cider vinegar which is one of the most useful teeth whitening agents.

In case your teeth stains don’t remove by the above agents, then you need to consult a dentist. There are several dental clinics providing teeth whitening in Gardena and many of these clinics have online exposure. South Bay Dentistry and Orthodontics is a quality dental clinic providing all the latest products of teeth whitening in Gardena. Visit their official website to know about the clinic in details.

Chemotherapy 0f Cancer Treatment

05 Jul

Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to kill cancer cells. Systemic chemotherapy is delivered through the bloodstream, targeting cancer cells throughout the body. For melanoma, this is typically used when there is a high risk that the melanoma may spread or to control advanced disease, although cure of widespread melanoma is rare. Several combinations of chemotherapy are currently being tested in clinical trials.

Common chemotherapy drugs used for melanoma include dacarbazine (DTIC), carboplatin (Paraplatin), cisplatin (Platinol), melphalan (Alkeran), and temozolamide (Temodar). The medications used to treat cancer are continually being evaluated. Talking with your doctor is often the best way to learn about the medications you’ve been prescribed, their purpose, and their potential side effects or interactions with other medications. In addition to systemic chemotherapy, there are also techniques that focus the drugs on a specific region. Isolated limb perfusion (ILP) and isolated limb infusion (ILI) are examples of this method.

The side effects of chemotherapy depend on the individual and the dose used, but can include fatigue, risk of infection, nausea and vomiting, some nerve damage resulting in alterations in sensation, and hair loss. These side effects usually go away once treatment is finished.

Immunotherapy of Skin Cancer Treatment

30 Jun

Immunotherapy (also called targeted or biologic therapy) helps the body’s immune system find and attack cancer cells. It uses materials either made by the body or in a laboratory to boost, target, or restore immune function. For basal and squamous cell carcinoma, the topical cream imiquimod is an “immune response modifier” that is commonly prescribed. Immunotherapy is also used to treat melanoma, particularly in reducing the risk that the melanoma will recur. The two most common drugs used are interferon alfa-2b and interleukin-2. Immunotherapy may be used in combination with surgery and/or chemotherapy, or as part of a clinical trial. Many other targeted drugs are being tested now, including therapeutic vaccines.

Side effects of these treatments vary. They can include fatigue, fever, chills, headache, memory difficulties, muscle aches, and skin irritation. Occasionally, side effects from immunotherapy can include a change in blood pressure or cause increased fluid in the lungs. You should discuss the benefits and risks of each treatment option with your doctor.

Skin Cancer Treatment

25 Jun

The choice of skin cancer treatment depends on the type, stage, size and location of the tumor, whether or not the cancer has spread (metastasized), and your overall health. Skin cancer treatment options typically include surgery, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and/or chemotherapy.

A team of doctors will work with you to determine the best skin cancer treatment plan. The team may include specialists such as a surgical oncologist, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, dermatologist (a doctor who specializes in diseases of the skin), and a pathologist.

Surgery

Both non-melanoma (basal cell and squamous cell) and melanoma skin cancers can be successfully treated in almost all cases if they are diagnosed and treated when the tumor is relatively thin. Surgery to remove the tumor is the standard treatment but numerous other options are available. The type of treatment method for nonmelanoma or melanoma (early stage or late stage) cancers depends on how large the lesion is, where it is found on the body, and the specific type. Some of the common choices are as follows:

  • Simple excision (removal) of the lesion and an area of normal-appearing skin surrounding it in all directions
  • Curettage and electrodesiccation (scraping and cauterizing), which is effective for small basal cell and squamous cell cancers
  • Mohs surgery (microscopically-controlled surgery), a highly specialized technique for basal and squamous cell carcinoma that doesn’t cause as much scarring as other methods

After surgery for melanoma, the surgeon or medical oncologist may also recommend so-called “adjuvant” treatment based on what information was learned about the disease during surgery. This may include immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy. If the melanoma has spread to distant organs (stage IV) or recurs (comes back after treatment), surgery may be performed again to help control the disease.

Bone Cancer Symptoms and Signs

20 Jun

Bone cancer is a malignant condition that can affect both children and adults. The term “bone cancer” encompasses several different types of the disease, therefore bone cancer symptoms can vary. As a whole, bone cancer is categorized based on whether the cancer originated in the bone (primary) or whether it spread from another location to the bone (secondary). Secondary bone cancer, or cancer that has spread to the bone from another part of the body, is much more common than primary bone cancer.

Bone Cancer Symptoms

Bone cancer symptoms may vary based on the type of bone cancer, but pain is the most commonly experienced symptom. Bone cancer most often occurs in the long bones of the body (arms and legs), so these are the most common sites for pain. Keep in mind that not all bone tumors are cancerous; some are benign. Bone pain is more often related to a benign condition, like an injury, than it is to cancer.

Other symptoms of bone cancer include:

  • joint tenderness or inflammation
  • fractures due to bone weakness

Non-specific symptoms like fever, unintentional weight loss, fatigue, and anemia can also be symptoms of later stage bone cancer, but are also indicators of other less severe conditions

What To Do If You Have Bone Cancer Symptoms

If you are experiencing bone pain or think you may have bone cancer, it is important to see your doctor. Express your concern over bone cancer early, so the doctor can address these thoughts right away. Keep in mind that bone cancer is not common, so your symptoms are much likely to be related to a much less serious condition. Your doctor will most likely want to rule out other conditions before attempting to diagnose bone cancer.

What Symptoms May Prompt a Doctor to Investigate Further

Chronic symptoms like bone pain, tenderness, inflammation, or loss of range of motion that does not return may prompt your doctor to seek additional tests to investigate the cause of the symptoms. In the bone cancer diagnostic process, x-rays, MRI, and bone scans are all possible imaging tests that a doctor may order. The findings from these tests are what will make a doctor suspect bone cancer.

Ultimately, it is a bone biopsy that will rule out or confirm the presence of cancer. A bone biopsy involves the removal of a small amount of bone tissue to be examined under a microscope. It usually takes less than an hour and can be done as an outpatient or surgical procedure.

Doing a biopsy on someone with primary bone cancer can be complex, because there is a risk of spreading the cancer during the procedure. The procedure should be done by a surgeon who has experience performing bone biopsies on those with suspected bone cancer. It’s important to note that biopsies can be a common way to worsen these cancers and potentially spread into other tissues when performed by someone who is inexperienced.

The Cancer

15 Jun

Cancer is a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. If the spread is not controlled, it can result in death. Cancer is caused by both external factors (tobacco, chemicals, radiation, and infectious organisms) and internal factors (inherited mutations, hormones, immune conditions, and mutations that occur from metabolism). These causal factors may act together or in sequence to initiate or promote carcinogenesis. The development of most cancers requires multiple steps that occur over many years. Certain types of cancer can be prevented by eliminating
exposure to tobacco and other factors that accelerate this process. Other potential malignancies can be detected before cells become cancerous or at an early stage, when the disease is most treatable. Cancer is treated by surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormones, and immunotherapy.

One in eight deaths worldwide is due to cancer. Worldwide, cancer causes more deaths than AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world (following heart diseases)  (Table 1). The burden of cancer is increasing in developing countries as childhood mortality and deaths from infectious diseases decline and more people live to older ages. Further, as people in developing countries adopt western lifestyle behaviors, such as cigarette smoking, higher consumption of saturated fat and calorie-dense foods, and reduced physical activity, rates of cancers common in western countries will rise if preventive measures are not widely applied.

Winter Skin Care Tips

10 Jun

We are warned to winterize every worldly possession, but most gloss over winter skin care. Still using the same skin products from July? Wondering why skin is itchy, dry, and scaly? Just as the weather changes its routine for the winter, skin care regiments also need revamping. By replacing a few key products and altering methods concerning the epidermis, you can keep the same health, glow, and comfort all year long.

Keep the sunscreen, and improve the moisturizer. Summer may be over, but the sun’s rays are still shining and looking to damage skin. Snow is worse than the pool or ocean at refracting sun beams into the face. Also, applying a light weight sunscreen before moisturize will improve hydration of the skin. Even if you do not use a facial sunscreen in the summer due to skin tone, winter may be the season to start!

Take a look at your facial moisturizer and try switching to one made specifically for dry skin. Even adjusting your cleanser to a gentler and more hydrating formulation will decrease the effects of wind and dry air on your cheeks. While sheer foundation coverage is all the rage at the beach, full coverage foundation is a must-have before hitting any slopes. This is also prefect timing to adjust the shade if the summer tan has faded to nothing but a memory.

Dry, cracked hands and vertical cuticles are unappealing plus painful! Utilize appropriate winter attire to combat this problem: gloves. Before donning a pair to leave the house, slather on a moisturizing hand lotion. Lotions leaning to more ointment type consistency are best at locking in moisture. Small travel size bottles of a favorite lotion should be stashed in the car, purse, kitchen, and bedroom so reapplication is always convenient. Gloves are also necessary to keep hands warm, improving blood flow. If planning extended outdoor activities, try wearing a snug pair of gloves underneath a large pair to create a layered barrier from Jack Frost’s nip.

Lips always seem to lose the battle with winters cruelty. Fight back with lip balm, lip balm, and more lip balm! Ditch the glittery glossy kind for a heavier ointment type. If possible, stay away from little tins and jars, as they promote the spread of germs. Swivel bottom stick kinds are great to keep fingers away from the mouth, but still should not be shared with others. Similar to the travel size lotion bottles, hoard them everywhere, except in places where they could end up in the dryer. Anytime the urge to lick lips is felt, lip balm should be sought and applied in haste. Unlike lipstick, excess balm on the skin around the lips is perfect. About once a day, gently rub lips with a wash cloth to slough off dead skin cells and apply lip balm immediately following for better absorption.

Don’t skimp on products that will interact with skin. Extra sensitive and high moisturizing shaving creams and moisturizing body wash should be stocked in the shower. A pump of body lotion located in the bathroom is perfect for application right after toweling off while the enclosed space is still steamy. Apply liberally to legs, arms, especially hitting elbows and knees. Since colds and viruses are always a winter malady, stock double-ply aloe infused tissues around for the sniffles. Nothing is worse than competing with Rudolph for a brighter red nose.

Invest in soft, gentle wash cloths and towels to prevent over exfoliation of dry skin layers. Taking a chill pill on exfoliating is a needed adjustment for skin to keep up with the dry conditions. Exfoliating is still necessary, but rough scrubbing too often in the winter will remove more skin layers than wanted. This removes a needed barrier at keeping moisture in, and healing can take longer in the winter months. Stay away from multiple, long hot showers as all natural skin oils wash right down the drain with the suds. Baths, a great solution to fighting winter chill, should only be warm and enhanced with creamy, moisturizing soaking products.

Keep an eye on nutrition. Skin receives its resources to build and refresh from the items the stomach digests. Because prices on summer fruits and vegetables typically increase in the winter months, it can be very easy to omit them from your grocery cart. Vitamin E is needed all year long, and can be found in high amounts in broccoli and spinach. A daily multi vitamin can also help combat our natural tendency to starchier foods in the winter. Don’t forget to still drink water. For a change of pace try warm apple juice or hot tea- anything that will keep the body’s hydration level high.

Winter may be blustery, dry, and harsh, but it doesn’t mean your skin should suffer. Maintain skin’s health and care by choosing skin care products appropriate for the weather change. This is a good time to purge spring and summer products as they will likely be expired or ineffective for the following year. Replace the products with extra moisturizing products and sacrifice sheer for complete coverage. Adjust routines with fewer, cooler showers and perhaps adding skin care products not needed in the summer months. Don’t forget the easiest way to keep lotion and lip balm applied, where it does its job best, is to keep it readily available. Finally, still down the fruits and vegetables you can, and carry on with drinking water even if heat exhaustion is unlikely. The cool weather may be deceptive, but dehydration can occur just as easily in winter as summer.

Facials for Skin Conditions

05 Jun

A good time to schedule a facial is when you’re experiencing temporary skin conditions, such as congestion or breakout. In fact, it’s great to schedule facials every month for your skin, regardless of its condition. Inform your skin care specialist of your needs, because the standard facial for your skin type needs to be modified to help correct your condition.

A good skin care technician knows how to help you solve temporary skin conditions. Ask your skin care technician to advise you about your skin treatments you can do at home to continue the healing effects of the facial. You may want to schedule a full series of salon or spa facials to correct skin conditions such as:

Congestion and breakouts. Your facial goal is extraction and removal of dead skin cells so your skin is clear. You need a deep cleansing facial with exfoliation. Salicylic acid or a clay mask will work well for exfoliation, and perhaps your skin care technician will use both. A steam treatment will get the blood flowing to your skin. This helps it heal more quickly. Extraction of blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples will clear up some of the congestion. Microdermabrasion can also work well.

Rosacea. Your facial goal is calming and soothing. Your skin needs to be treated very gently. Make sure the skin care technician is aware of the rosacea and doesn’t over stimulate your skin. Think calm and cool. Avoid electrical brushes and microdermabrasion. Cold stone treatments for the face are excellent, as are cooling masks, a shoulder massage, and a very gentle peel, preferably with an enzyme or with lactic acid. The relaxation aspect of your facial helps to reduce inflammation and irritation.

Dehydration. Your goal is to moisture back into your skin. Steaming is good, as in a facial massage with moisturizing products. Peel with either an enzyme peel or glycolic acid. Paraffin masks are an excellent way to infuse moisture. Microdermabrasion can polish the skin and provide a gentle exfoliation treatment. Finish up with humectants and moisturizers.

Sensitized skin. Talk with your skin care technician to determine the root cause of your skin condition. Your goal is to calm and soothe the skin and to relax. Your skin needs gentle treatments, such as a cooling mask, shoulder massage, and lymphatic massage. Extraction is fine if your skin needs it. If your skin is sensitized as a result of illness, antibiotics, or chemotherapy, use clay masks or green tea compresses to draw toxins out of the skin.

Sun damage. Your goal is to reduce sun damage and increase cell turnover rate. Peel with microdermabrasion, glycolic acid, or a combination of AHAs and BHAs. The skin care technician can be more aggressive with your skin and possibly do two peels because of the high keratinization levels of you skin. First do a BHA peel and then a glycolic peel. Steam is beneficial, as are humectants and moisturizing creams.

Pigmentation. Your goal is to have your darker pigmentation areas appear lighter, along with receiving a facial to suite your skin type. One or even two peels with microdermabrasion, glycolic acid, or a combination of AHAs, and BHAs to increase cell turnover rate can help. Use bleaching herbals, such as red raspberry and licorice. A mild hydroquinone cream is also effective. Your skin care technician might suggest that you consult with a dermatologist to inquire about a prescription for a high percentage hydroquinone cream or a Retin-A. If your pigmentation is caused by illness, then your skin type determines your facial treatments.

Premature aging. Your goal is to increase the appearance of aging. The skin care technician can stimulate the skin with vitamin C and other nourishing ingredients, such as essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. Your skin needs stimulation to increase cell turnover rate. Peel with glycolic or lactic acid or feed skin with oxygen. An energetic massage helps to increase blood circulation to the skin. Talk with your skin care technician about the causes of your prematurely aged skin so that you can make lifestyle changes to correct the condition.

Menopausal skin. Your goal is to firm, tighten, and stimulate skin to increase cell turnover rate. Apply phytoestrogen products directly on skin to help plump it up. Use stronger glycolic peels at 30 to 40 percent solution and a PH of 2.5 to 3. Microdermabrasion can also be helpful. Apply moisturizing products.

Schedule a facial when you want to be pampered, when your skin is acting up, and about a week before a big event. You should also consider having a facial with the change of seasons for seasonal cleansing. Think of it as spring cleaning for the skin.
